Before Garbo, before Dietrich, there was Louise Brooks. This is a film from 1930, one of the first made with sound in France. A lowly typist has high aspirations to be a part of the glamour of Parisian life. She enters a beauty contest, over the strong objections of her insanely jealous husband, and wins the “Prix.” He cannot bear losing her, and this leads to these final few minutes.
